Each kit contains picture books, finger plays, tapes, CDs, and puppets, all intended to add more to your story times with children. During this session, you will learn how to effectively use the Story Time Kits to get the most out of them. Participants will explore how the Kits can be used to enhance the Six Skills for Early Literacy to engage children in meaningful early literacy activities. Facts Are Fun
“Once upon a time…” is the traditional beginning for books routinely read to children, but some children would prefer—“What makes a rainbow?” The first kind of book can be found in the picture book area of the library, but the second book is in the non-fiction section of the library. Non-fiction or factual books are not just for school-aged children, but for any child who needs a question answered, an idea explained, or an interest expanded. Informational books also introduce children to important concepts and vocabulary. During this session, you will explore great non-fiction books and how those books can be used to add fun and interest to your classroom. 1.5 hours continuing education earned by attending this workshop.
