Special Features
Children are encouraged to explore
the nooks and crannies of their library. There  are
places to read, places to listen to tapes or CDs, thousands of books and
30 multimedia computers just for children.
The giant book greets new visitors at the entrance with
a message from the past displayed on the technology of the future. Quotes
from children's books entice new readers into sampling the treasures within.
The lighthouse, a symbol of communication, is modeled
after the 19th century  lighthouse which overlooks Milwaukee's lakefront.
Children can climb to the top for an adult's-eye-view of their library.
The reading steps invite children to listen to a storyteller
together with family and friends, or curl up by themselves in the window
seat to read a good book.
The Faye McBeath theater allows children and families to
enjoy a movie presented on the large screen television.
Listening stations are available for children to listen
to cassettes or CDs from the library's collection. The Herzfeld activity room features state-of-the-art technology
for presentations and training sessions on topics such as how to use the
electronic card catalog. Many library programs are held in here as well.
A small puppet theater and puppets encourage children to
engage in dramatic play. |
