Milwaukee Public Library “Super Reader” summer reading program kicks off Mayor Tom Barrett declares May 14 “Super Reader” day across Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Public Library today launched its 2012 “Super Reader” summer reading program with an event at the Washington Park Library branch attended by 50 first‐grade students from Milwaukee French Immersion School. Children may sign up for the free program at any of the 13 Milwaukee Public Libraries and track the time they spend reading to earn rewards now through August 30. A library card is not required, although librarians are eager to help every child obtain one. New this year, children will receive the popular “Super Reader” yard/window sign when they register.

Lamar Companies promotes MPL in free ad campaign
Thanks to the generosity of Lamar Companies, the Milwaukee Public Library has captured the interest of bibliophiles the world over through the promotion of three billboard ads.  Lamar prepared the ads for the Library and is running them on their digital billboards throughout Milwaukee County at no cost.

Milwaukee Public Library Board Committee Selects HSI Team for East Library Redevelopment
The Milwaukee Public Library Board of Trustee’s Building and Development Committee selected HSI Development to redevelop the East Branch of the Milwaukee Public Library at its meeting Wednesday evening. HSI’s proposal was developed with team members Wired Properties and Engberg Anderson Architects. The committee’s recommendation will be considered by the full Board at its November 22 meeting.

The Milwaukee Public Library Board of Trustee’s Building and Development Committee will consider three proposals for the redevelopment of the East Library property on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. at the East Library.

Milwaukee Public Library Laptop Program Up and Running
Six MPL locations have laptops, computer trainers thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration
Six Milwaukee Public Library (MPL) neighborhood branches have new laptop computers for library customers to check out and use while in the library building, thanks to a Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) grant which was provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  This funding also improves the free broadband Internet service at all 13 MPL locations.

Milwaukee Public Library Needs Adult Tutors
Adult volunteers are needed to provide one-on-one tutoring for adult learners at the Milwaukee Public Library. The volunteers will provide tutoring for Milwaukee residents ages 18 and older who want to upgrade their basic math and reading skills, and for adults working toward completing their GED or studying English as a second language.
