programs for youth and adults compiled by Milwaukee Public Library.
Homework Help
Milwaukee Public Library's Homework Help program is offered at Central
Library and four neighborhood libraries. Elementary and middle school
students often come to the libraries looking for help with school assignments.
Volunteers listen, guide them and advise them on their homework. Hours are generally week nights from 4 to 7 p.m. Call the libraries listed below for specific days and times when homework help is available.
Adult volunteers are needed to mentor and work with young people in the Homework Help program October through May. If you have two hours per week to help a youngster, please call one of these libraries and ask a librarian for details.
English Language Conversation Circle @ Forest Home Library/ Circulo de conversación en ingles en la Biblioteca de Forest Home
Mondays, 6 p.m. Practice basic conversational skills, learn English vocabulary and American expressions in a small group led by a native English speaker. Please call to register or see a librarian.
Lunes, 6 p.m.
Practica sus habilidades básicas de conversación, aprender vocabulario en ingles y expresiones americanas en un grupo pequeño guiado por un hablante nativo de ingles. Por favor de llamar al 414-286-3086 para inscribirse o hablar con un bibliotecario en la Biblioteca de Forest Home.
Adult volunteers are needed at the five libraries listed above to help other adults improve their reading, writing, math, GED and English speaking skills.
Arrange tutoring times according to your schedule, Mondays through Saturdays, two hours per week.
A four-week tutor training program is provided for adult volunteers who choose to participate in this program. The sessions are also open to volunteers from community-based organizations on an "as available" basis. Three sessions are led by adult education instructors from Milwaukee Area Technical College; one session is an orientation at the library site of the volunteer's choice.
