A Variety of Ways to Promote the Super Reader Program
Advertisers say people need to see a message six times before
they internalize it. Mix and match the following ideas
to encourage your students and their families to participate
in the Super Readers program this summer:
Use the letters and
small advertisements we’ve
included on this site to send home with your students. Feel
free to personalize with your letterhead and signature. We’ve
included a variety of letters, press releases, etc. for
multiple communications with parents. Spread
out the messages over the last month of school to remind
parents of the importance of summer reading and how they
can easily incorporate it into their family activities.
Hang posters in high traffic areas, such
as the drop off and pick up locations, in your school.
Create
a bulletin board with the poster and/or other Super
Reader images. Most Super Reader images are
available in color from the reproducibles section for
you to print off and use.
Call your nearest Milwaukee Public
Library and ask the
children’s librarian to come to your school to promote
the Super Reader program to your students. Librarians can
promote to each class or an assembly.
If your school has a phone
tree, plan on having a Super Reader reminder message go
out this summer.
Read one of the shorter messages during
announcements,
or have some of the students read the Super Reader messages.
Incorporate
the ideas for the class rooms into lesson plans.
Send the Milwaukee Public
Library schedule of hours and the Summer Calendar home with
your students. (Call
your neighborhood library to receive multiple copies of
the schedule of hours and calendar.)
Send a Super Reader folder home with each child. Include
the letter to the parents. |
