Dr. King's Final Sunday Sermon ~ "Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution"

By Debbie O. on Nov 11, 2015 2:14 PM

As we plan our Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebrations here at the King Branch, we will be highlighting the art and history of the branch.

Here is a photo of one of the 17 quotations celebrating the words and wisdom of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as inscribed on the end of the book stacks at the King Branch. This quote was part of his final Sunday sermon on March 31, 1968.

Visit us to see all of them!

On the Sunday before he was gunned down in Memphis, Dr. King stood in the pulpit of the Cathedral Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, otherwise known as Washington National Cathedral, to preach what no one there could have imagined would be his final Sunday sermon, entitled: “Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution.”
