The Big Move @ Bay View Library is Finally Complete

By MPL Staff on Nov 6, 2014 4:37 PM

It started nine months ago and meant moving every book in the main reading room at least once, but Bay View's big move is mostly completed.  The project began with the library deciding that the children's nonfiction books needed a space of their own so that kid's could easily find factual books written just for them.  So staff began separating them from the adult books on the same subject.  The children's nonfiction spent months sitting on book carts waiting for their new home, while staff shifted and moved collections and shelving units to give them a space of their own.

When everything was completed, there was an added extra bonus: we had the space to restore the young adult area that the building had when it originally opened.  Over the years the young adult area had been taken over by paperback racks.  Once shelving units were moved to  provide space for the paper racks nearer to where the fiction collection was and we moved the young adult fiction closer to the rest of the young adult books, we had a nice space where teens could sit and browse.

Many of your favorite collections may have moved.  The adult nonfiction is now shelved in a continuous run from the end of the music CD's to the end of the building.  The adult fiction and paperback racks have been moved to the center of the room on the left. The young adult books are all shelved in the area near the DVD's right before you enter the children's area.  The children's nonfiction is shelved directly behind the Young Adult.  Many smaller collections have also been moved.  If your favorite library materials are not where you saw them last, just ask at the Information Desk
