Memories of the Wisconsin State Fair

By Brett R. on Aug 3, 2015 11:30 AM

The Wisconsin State Fair starts this week! Running from August 6-16, it will bring back all of the things you love about it - the animals, the marketplace, the rides, and of course, the food (CREAM PUFFS!!!). It is one of the most beloved events of the festival season in Milwaukee.

One of the great things about the fair is its ability to keep its longstanding traditions going. While some things have changed, many more have not, making a yearly visit (or two) feel like visiting an old friend. This is a testament to its greatness.

At MPL, we too like keeping old traditions alive with our wide-ranging archival collections. Pictured above are some of the artifacts we have from State Fairs past, which can be found in our Local History Pamphlets File. We also have books, photographs, and other materials available for your viewing. Stop by Central Library sometime soon to see them. It just may jog some old memories.
