What’s Your Word Count? NaNoWriMo at MPL

By Tim on Nov 4, 2015 8:40 AM

It’s National Novel Writing Month! (Yes, that’s what ‘NaNoWriMo’ stands for.) Every November writers challenge themselves to write a 50,000 word novel in one month. It’s not too late to start now, and to help you write your next great novel we’re running several programs at different libraries this month!

First off, we have NaNoWriMo Write-Ins, where you can gather together for support as you hammer down some of that mountainous word count. We’ll be hosting 3 of these events at different libraries:

Saturday, November 7, 9 a.m.-5 p.m @ the Central Library, 814 W. Wisconsin Ave.

Saturday, November 14, 2:30-4:30 p.m. @ the East Library, 2320 N. Cramer St.

Monday, November 30, 5:30-7:30 p.m. @ the Center Street Library, 2727 W. Fond du Lac Ave.

We’ve got some special guest events, too!

Writing Characters Who Leap Off the Page

When: Monday, November 23, 6:30 p.m.

Where: Central Library, 814 W. Wisconsin Ave, Krug Rare Books Room

Make those 50,000 words count by writing unforgettable characters. Novelist Liza Wiemer shares tips and tricks for developing dynamic characters who leap off the page. Liza is an educator and experienced public speaker who recently made her young adult novel debut with HELLO?

If you can't make it in to the library, there are tons of great websites that'll provide help and support, whether it's the official NaNoWriMo site, or Quirk Books' fabulous word count chart. So get to writing! Anyone can participate, so why aren't you?
