Calling All Educators! MPL Is Recruiting For Teacher In The Library.

By Anna on Oct 7, 2014 8:30 AM

MPL is still hiring for three locations where we will offer Teacher in The Library to school age students. Ideal candidates have a current Wisconsin teaching license and are available at 3:15 on the days they work.  A minimum commitment of two days/week is required. The locations and days that we need teachers for are listed below:

Atkinson, 1960 W. Atkinson Ave. (Monday/Wednesday)

Center St., 2727 W. Fond du Lac Ave. (Monday-Thursday)

Washington Park, 2121 N. Sherman Blvd. (Monday-Thursday)

Teacher in the Library will:

• Help direct children and get them focused on their homework.

The teachers will work with elementary and middle school students on homework assignments in all academic areas. Teachers will help students in the library focus on learning skills, developing good homework habits, using appropriate learning strategies, and finding resources for completing their homework assignments.

• In coordination with the children’s librarian, find books appropriate for the student’s reading level.

• Reinforce learning concepts that are evident in homework assignments.

• Talk with caregivers and parents about homework strategies, study skills, and general academic support.

• Track student attendance of the program, as required by the grant.

In the event students do not have any homework, and are unfocused about what to do in the library, the teacher will direct students to age appropriate educational activities, such as reading or playing educational games provided by the library.
