Consisting of just under 17 million articles, 19th Century U. S. Newspapers from the Thomson Gale Company is a genealogy or history buff's dream come true. Fully searchable by keyword, this database includes papers from across the U.S., and is particularly strong on the Midwest. Newspapers with significant runs include the Milwaukee Journal, Milwaukee Sentinel, Wisconsin State Journal, Chicago Evening Journal, Cleveland Daily Herald, St. Paul Pioneer Press, Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper, and Frederick Douglass' Paper, to name just a few.

Containing over 1,000 U.S. newspapers, most of which date back to the late 1990s (some before), Americas Obituaries & Death Notices includes everything from front page news articles to paid death announcements. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Historic Archives
For an understanding of history as it was made, nothing can take the place of a daily newspaper. In partnership with Google, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has now made available this searchable archive to The Milwaukee Journal, The Milwaukee Sentinel and The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel which covers the time period of 1884-2007. Access is by date or keyword. When searching by date, a specific newspaper may be selected. For more information, here are some search tips. Articles cannot be printed or downloaded, but links may be e-mailed. The results list of citations may be printed. Gaps do exist, as papers are still being loaded. To search Milwaukee newspapers prior to 1884, use 19th Century U.S. Newspapers. For archival papers after 2007, try The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (via NewsBank).
