A satellite channel of free educational programming for schools, colleges, and communities. On the channel, there are programs for classroom use and personal development, such as Teaching Math Videos, Art of the Western World, Discovering Psychology, and Destinos: An Introduction to Spanish - among many others.

EL/Civics Online
EL/Civics Online (English Literacy/Civics) is a useful site for ESL teachers and tutors to help them create and develop lesson plans in the area of U.S Civics. Topics include U.S History, U.S Government, Civic Engagement and the Naturalization Process. The site is free and includes two tutorials for teachers, one for lesson planning and the other for adapting materials.
English as a Second Language

Greater Milwaukee Literacy Coalition
This non-profit coalition was formed in 1986 to promote adult and family literacy in Southeastern Wisconsin. GMLC brings together people concerned about the issue of literacy - volunteer tutors, professional educators, businesses and other concerned individuals.
Interesting Things for ESL Students
This Web site is for people studying English as a Second Language (ESL) or English as a Foreign Language (EFL). There are quizzes, word games, word puzzles, proverbs, slang expressions, anagrams, a random-sentence generator and other study materials. Even though the primary focus is for ESL, native English speakers may also find some interesting things on this site. This site is non-commercial and has no advertising.

Be ready for school or career tests. Some of the practice tests available are: ASVAB, AP, SAT, ACT, GRE, civil service, GED, U.S. citizenship, firefighting and law enforcement. Many others are included, plus tests for sharpening basic skills. Free registration provides you with a personal account to monitor your progress. This database was formerly called Learn a Test.

Mango Languages  MPL Special Link
Have you ever wanted to learn a foreign language? Now's the time to try out Mango Languages, an easy to use approach to basic or complete language learning. Featured languages include: Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Italian, Latin American Spanish and Inglés Para Hablantes De Español. Upon beginning a language, the site will check to make sure users have Javascript and Adobe Flash Player enabled. Provided by the Milwaukee County Federated Library System through federal LSTA grant funding.

Spanish language site for Spanish speakers learning English. Includes readings, grammar exercises, vocabulary building lists, ear-training skills, lectures, Web tools, a chat forum, a dictionary and a translation tool. Personal headphones are needed for some of the exercises - these headphones are not available at most City of Milwaukee libraries

Provides adult learners with preparatory and developmental instruction in Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language, General educational Development, computer skills, and the skills of citizenship through individualized programming and flexible scheduling.

One More Story  MPL Special Link
Hear a book! See a book! Read a book! One More Story is an online library of children's classic and contemporary literature. Included among the over 50+ featured titles are such popular books as Crow Boy, Mouse Paint, and Pete's a Pizza. Through a simple point and click process, children can choose a book, see the illustrations and listen to the book out loud while following along as each word is highlighted. The guide is a bookworm and music accents the charming presentation - kids will want to come to the library for their personal storytime to read these books over and over again!

Many different materials for English as a Second Language (ESL) students and teachers, which include resource pages, handouts, and exercises. Over 60 other handouts and exercises concerning grammar are also available in the grammar handouts section.
ProLiteracy Worldwide
A nonprofit international literacy organization, based in Syracuse, NY, that was formed by the 2002 merger of Laubach Literacy International and Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc. ProLiteracy Worldwide is the oldest and largest nongovernmental literacy organization in the world. The site provides access to a vast array of literacy resources, statistics, organizations and more.

The official Web site for Test of English as a Foreign Language. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) measures the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use and understand North American English as it is used in college and university settings.
U.S.A. Learns
A free site for people who want to improve their reading, writing and speaking skills in English. Registration is recommended but not required.
