Alex Catalogue of Electronic Texts
The Alex Catalogue of Electronic Texts is collection of digital documents. The scope of documents in the collection include items from American literature, English literature, and Western philosophy. Search for specific text, or browse by author or title.
Bartleby
Bartleby.com publishes the most up-to-date collection of reference works, as well as classic works of reference, fiction, nonfiction and verse all free of charge for the home, classroom and desktop of each and every Internet user. Other features include a searchable database containing over 370,000 Web pages, the largest database of quotations ever published (over 86,000 quotations) as well as the largest freely available verse database (over 10,000 poems).
British Library-Turning the Pages
The British Library has created an award-winning interactive program called 'Turning the Pages' for 10 of its treasures including the Leonardo Notebook. There is a version available over the Web. Online users can zoom in on high-quality images, and read or listen to notes explaining the beauty and significance of each page.

netLibrary  MPL Special Link
Through the netLibrary Web site, MPL is offering non-fiction electronic books which can be searched and read on a computer with Internet access and a browser. The netLibrary collection includes over 8,000 electronic books. Accounts must be created in a library, or through remote authentication via this link. Hear a book! See a book! Read a book! One More Story is an online library of children's classic and contemporary literature. Included among the over 50+ featured titles are such popular books as Crow Boy, Mouse Paint, and Pete's a Pizza. Through a simple point and click process, children can choose a book, see the illustrations and listen to the book out loud while following along as each word is highlighted. The guide is a bookworm and music accents the charming presentation - kids will want to come to the library for their personal storytime to read these books over and over again!

The Online Books Page, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, is a Web site that facilitates access to books that are freely readable over the Internet. All of the information on this site is provided free of charge to all without soliciting or running any paid advertising on the site. You can search for a specific book or use the categories author, title, or subject.
PdaBooks.org
PDABooks.Org is a free resource for handheld reading. It's reading in the palm of your hand. All of the books on this server are in the public domain in the United States or permission to distribute has been obtained. Currently all books available are in the industry open format PalmDOC. All new additions to the site will be in both PalmDOC and Microsoft Reader (Lit) format. Users must have PDA and download capabilities to access texts.
Project Gutenberg
Project Gutenberg is the Internet's oldest producer of free electronic books (eBooks or etexts). The collection contains more than 10,000 eBooks produced by hundreds of volunteers with over 100 new eBooks added every week. Most of the Project Gutenberg eBooks are older literary works that are in the public domain in the United States. All may be freely downloaded and read, and redistributed for non-commercial use.
Sparknotes
Sponsored by Barnes and Noble, Spark Notes provides study guides for most major works, divided into categories such as Literature, Shakespeare, Drama, and Poetry. Each guide includes a discussion of context, an overview of the plot, a list of characters, a discussion of themes and motifs, and a quiz to test your knowledge. Most materials are available to read free online, however, there is a charge for users who wish to download and print.
