Capitol Library, located at 3969 N. 74th St., opened in 1964 due in a large part to the "vigor, vitality and enthusiasm" of community support, according to then City Librarian Richard Krug. Its collection was developed using materials from five other neighborhood libraries which eventually closed.

Special resources at Capitol include popular materials such as fiction and mysteries, videos, audiobooks and CDs, and business resources such as Value Line and Morningstar. Capitol Library serves as a preschooler's door to learning through its collection of interactive CD-ROM educational games, children's books and videos.

"This is a busy neighborhood library serving thousands of people and circulating over 350,000 items per year."
-- Acklen J. Banks, Jr.,
branch manager
