Ways to Give

Memorials and Tributes

Whether you are celebrating a special occasion, honoring someone close to your heart, or remembering a loved one who has passed, a gift to the Milwaukee Public Library Foundation is a special way of acknowledging your admiration or compassion. Your gift adds books and other materials directly to the library’s collection which is used by more than 2.8 million patrons each year.

All gifts are recognized with a personal letter sent to the honoree or next of kin and bookplates are inscribed and placed in the items purchased with the donation. Gifts of less than $50 will be used for the library’s general book fund. For special gifts of $50-$99, the donor can choose the specific collection area in which the donation should be used to purchase (e.g. young adult, fiction, humanities). For generous gifts of $100 and over, the donor can choose a specific subject area within the collection area (e.g. humanities book on local history).

In recognition of gifts in the amount of $25 or more, a bookplate will be inscribed with your name and/or that of the person whom you are recognizing.

Planned Giving

Planned gifts make a difference to the library. A planned gift is just that; it is considered and planned for by the donor during his/her lifetime to accommodate charitable giving interest as well as receive tax benefits. There are several ways to make a planned gift:

  • Gifts made through a will or trust agreement
  • Gifting an IRA
  • Gift Annuity
  • Gift of a remainder interest in a personal residence

Most people consult with an attorney or a financial planner to facilitate making these gifts. One of the most common ways to leave a planned charitable gift to the foundation is through a will or trust. If you choose this option, it is important to use the correct legal name in your documents: Milwaukee Public Library Foundation, Inc.

For specific information on planned giving, please contact the Milwaukee Public Library Foundation office at foundation@mpl.org or 414-286-8703.
