FREE Workshops
Ready to Read with Books2Go - free continuing education workshops for child care providers. Pre-registration required for all workshops. Only those who have registered for the session will be permitted to attend.

Class sizes are limited.

Care givers only; accommodations are not available for children at any
Ready to Read workshop, no exceptions.

Registration for provider workshops will begin one month prior to the event.

The Six Skills for Early Literacy
Join the Ready to Read staff and get excited about reading and books! Explore easy ways to develop literacy skills in young children. Learn the six skills that every child needs in order to be prepared to learn how to read when they enter school. Learn fun ways to expand lessons to include the skills. Leave with finger plays, songs, and new ideas that will help the children you care for get ready to read! All participants receive a free gift.
3 hours continuing education earned by attending this workshop.

Childcare Providers and the Library
The library has many resources to assist child care providers with curriculum planning, but sometimes knowing how and where to find those resources can be a challenge! During this hands-on session, child care providers will learn about resources at the library that can be used to enhance their curriculum and planning. Learn how to search the library catalog, locate library materials and plan activities using these resources. Leave this session with a plan you can use the next day. Participants are encouraged to bring their valid Books2Go library cards or personal library cards. Limited to 15 participants. 2 ½ hours of continuing education earned by attending.

Spanish Workshop - Taller para proveedores de cuidado infantil en español Seis destrezas de alfabetización temprana
Acompañe al personal de Ready to Read (Listos para leer) y emociónese con la lectura y los libros! Descubra maneras sencillas con las cuales puede desarrollar las habilidades de alfabetización en los niños pequeños. Aprenda cuáles son las seis destrezas que cada niño requiere para que esté preparado para leer al ingresar a la escuela y aprenda cómo ampliar las lecciones de una manera divertida para que incluyan estas destrezas. Llévese juegos de deditos, canciones e ideas nuevas que ayudarán a los niños en su cuidado a prepararse para leer. Cada participante recibirá

The Rhyme and Reason of Mother Goose
There has been extensive research done on the importance of children learning nursery rhymes. Babies, toddlers and preschoolers love to hear their favorite rhymes over and over again. The ability to repeat a rhyme or finger play gives children a sense of satisfaction. Please join the Ready to Read staff as we explore why Mother Goose and poetry are essential to early literacy. Learn ways you can use Mother Goose with young children. A make and take will give you something new to use the very next day. 1.5 hours continuing education earned by attending this workshop.

NewWonderful Words!: Developing Vocabulary
The research is clear that the more words a child hears the stronger their vocabulary becomes. And a strong vocabulary means stronger reading skills. This session will focus on understanding why an enriched vocabulary is essential and how to help children develop their vocabulary through fun age-appropriate activities. 1.5 hours of continuing education earned by attending this workshop.
