Take
an autumn walk and talk about the changes in the seasons. Collect
leaves that have fallen from trees and sort them by size or color.
You can also collect acorns, hickory nuts and moss. Help your children
notice changes in temperature that require different clothing. You
can also talk about Daylight Savings Time and point out that it is
dark earlier now. They won’t understand the details, but they
can start to notice that now it is dark when they eat supper, but
in the summer the sun was still out.
Fall
Leaf Hanging
Set out a variety of colorful fall leaves.
Give each child a 6 to 10 inch square of clear self-stick paper with the backing
removed. Let the children arrange the leaves on the sticky sides of their squares.
When each child is finished, place a second clear self-stick paper square
over the first square and seal the edges well.
Punch a hole at the top of each square
and add a loop of yarn. Arrange the leaf hangings in a window. |
| Way
Up High in the Apple Tree
Way up high in the apple tree,
(hold arms up high)
Two little apples smiled at me.
(make fists for apples)
I shook that tree as hard as I could,
(shake arms)
Down came the apples
(flutter hands down)
Mmmmm were they good!
(take a bite and rub your tummy)
Pumpkins
on the Ground
(Tune: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star)
Pumpkin, pumpkin
on the ground,
(crouch down)
How'd you get so big and round?
(make a circle with arms overhead)
Once you were a seed so small,
(pretend to hold a seed)
Now you are a great big ball!
(make huge circle with hands)
Pumpkin, pumpkin on the ground
How'd you get so big and round? |
Autumn
Leaves are Falling Down
(Tune: London Bridges Falling
Down)
Autumn leaves are falling down,
Falling down, falling down,
Autumn leaves are falling down,
All over town.
A cold wind blows them all around,
All around, all around,
A cold wind blows them all around,
All over town.
They’re drifting
gently to the ground,
To the ground, to the ground,
They’re drifting gently to the ground,
All over town.
Take
a rake and rake them up,
Rake them up, rake them up,
Take a rake and rake them up,
All over town.
Fall Winds
Fall winds begin to blow
(purse lips to blow)
Colored leaves fall fast and slow
(flutter hands down)
Whirling, twirling all around
(turn yourself around)
And at last, they touch the ground
(touch the floor)
