Game
Time—Leap
Frog
Teach children the game of leap frog using a favorite stuffed animal or a friend.
Show toddlers how to crouch low on the floor and jump the stuffed animal over
the child. Put the toy on the floor in front of your child
and help them hop over it. Play in carpeted areas where falls are softened.
Leap in a circle or from one point to another (couch to doorway). Once kids
understand the idea of taking turns, they are ready to play this game with
friends and with you.
Cooking
Corner—Turtle
Salad
You can also make a “turtle salad” for lunch using
a peach half for the shell, a nut or grape for the head, and carrot
sticks for legs and
a tail. Serve your turtle on a lettuce-leaf lily pad. |
| The Little Frog
I am a little frog (sit
with legs crossed)
Hopping on a log. (bounce up & down)
Listen to my song. (ribbit, ribbit)
I sleep all winter long. (lay head in hands)
Wake up and peek out (peek between fingers)
Up I jump, all about. (bounce)
I catch flies (grabbing motion)
I wink my eyes (blink)
I hop and hop (bounce)
And then I stop.
Mr. Bullfrog
Here's Mr. Bullfrog (make
a fist)
Sitting on a rock (put fist on palm)
Into the water he jumps (raise arm high)
KERPLOP! (clap loudly)
Five Little Froggies
One little, two little,
three little froggies.
Four little, five little, green little froggies.
Splashing and croaking and hopping are the froggies,
Living in my pond.

Little
Turtle
There was a little turtle
(make fist, cover with other hand)
Who lived in a box.
(form circle, fingers touching)
He swam in water,
(thumbs together, flutter fingers)
And climbed on the rocks.
(‘walk’ one hand over other)
He snapped at a mosquito,
(grabbing motion, up high)
He snapped at a flea,
(grabbing motion, in front)
He snapped at a minnow,
(grabbing motion, down low)
And he snapped at me!
(grabbing motion, under chin)
He caught the mosquito,
(clap hands up high)
He caught the flea,
(clap hands in front)
He caught the minnow,
(clap hands down low)
But he didn’t catch me!
(point to self, shake head)
Two Old Turtles
Two old turtles, Going for
a walk,
(Hold out clenched fists, thumbs out)
"Good morning," said
one,
" Shall we have a little talk?"
(wiggle one thumb)
"Yes," said the other," I
do enjoy a chat"
(wiggle other thumb)
So they walked along
together
With a natter, natter, nat !
(Hold out clenched fists, thumbs out) |
