Fun Activities

shape sorterOn a trip to the grocery store, look for items that have different shapes. Some shapes (rectangles) are easier to find than others (triangles), but it can be done. Help children look for shapes on product labels and see how they are arranged on the shelves.

Use size-related words often when reading, looking at magazines, watching TV or taking a walk. Reinforce common words such as tall, short, big and shapes used to outline a bikesmall with less-common words that describe size: fat, skinny, huge, tiny, wide, narrow. Remember when comparing the sizes of two objects, look at them from your children’s point of view. Objects look different when seen from a different perspective.

Red Shape
(Tune of: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)

Put your Red shape in the air
Hold it high & leave it there.
Put your red shape on your back
Now please lay it in your lap.
Hold your red shape in your hand.
Now everyone please stand.
Wave your red shape at the door.
Now please lay it on the floor.
Hold your red shape and jump, jump, jump.
Throw your red shape way, way up!

(change red to other colors and repeat)
