Fun Activities

Everyone likes to know they are loved. Tell your children often that you care. Especially when disciplining them or dealing with stressful situations, help them understand that you can dislike something they’ve done while continuing to love them. Touching is an important way to show children that they are loved. Make sure your toddlers get lots of hugs, kisses, and tender touches every day.

mime listeningTalk with toddlers about sounds you hear.
Ask some of these questions:

  • Close your eyes and listen. What sounds do you hear? Cars? Horns? Running water? Radio or television? What else?
  • Lightly put your fingers on your throat when singing or talking. Do you feel your throat tingle?
  • While talking, gently pat your chest or your mouth to make the sound change. Can you do that while singing?
  • (Put different sized items in small covered containers and shake.) Does macaroni sound different than raisins? Cereal?
  • Practice talking in a loud voice…now a normal voice…now a whisper. Can you be perfectly still? Can you hear more sounds when you are still?
