Toddlers
enjoy learning the names of different kinds of vehicles.
Name them for children.
Trucks: semitrailer,
tow, dump, and pickups;
Trains: steam engine, caboose
Cars: station
wagons, vans, convertibles, limousines;
Trolleys: electric
Boats: speed, sail, freight;
Tractors, Buses, Airplanes
Play matching games:
Say“I see a pickup truck. Can you see one,
too?” Do the same with colors.
Create an easy car-bingo game for kids:
Draw nine squares on a piece of cardboard. Put one
picture in each square, using things that are plentiful on your
journey so toddlers will have several opportunities to see them.
Draw simple pictures or cut them from magazines and glue them in
the squares. Make bingo games with colors (red things), shapes
(circles, triangles), familiar places (McDonalds, playgrounds,
gas stations), vehicles (big trucks, school bus, trains), nature
(clouds, trees, animals), etc. Each time a child finds something
on the bingo card, give them a sticker to put on that square. |
| Auto,
Auto
Auto, auto, may I have a ride?
point to self
Yes, yes, yes.
Step inside.
Nod head, motion toward yourself.
Pour in the water.
Pump in the gas.
Chug-away,
chug-away, but not too fast! Steering motion
Choo-Choo Train
This is a choo-choo train,
Bend arms at elbows
Puffing down the track.
Rotate arms
Now it’s going forward,
Now it’s going back.
Reverse motion
Now the bell is ringing,
Pull cord
Now the whistle blows.
What a lot of noise it makes,
Cover ears
Everywhere it goes.
Stretch arms out

If
I Were…
If I were an airplane
(spread arms out)
I would fly up in the sky.
If I were a tricycle
(pump legs like peddling)
I would wave as I went by.
If I were a dump truck
(elbow bent, hand on shoulder)
I would dump my heavy load.
(let hand fall)
But if I were a car or bus
I’d roll on down the road.
(roll hands over each other)
If I were a choo-choo train
(hands at sides)
Along the tracks I’d chug.
(push-pull with arms)
And if I were a steam shovel
(hands near knees, palms up)
I would have a big hole dug.
(scoop with hands)
If I were a whirlybird
(whirl hands over head)
I’d sing a whirly tune.
(make whirring noise)
But if I were a rocket ship I’d blast off to the moon!
(shoot hands up)
