The Wisconsin Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped is now the Wisconsin Talking Book and Braille Library (the Library). Located in the Milwaukee Public Library’s Central Library in downtown Milwaukee, all other contact information remains the same.

Milwaukee Public Library Presents New Library and Key Ring Cards
The Milwaukee Public Library (MPL) has a new supply of library cards in stock for all ages – children, teens, and adults. The new cards have an updated design and color scheme. In addition, teens and adults can ask for a matching key ring card – a smaller version of the library card that attaches to a key ring for easy use when checking out library materials. Such key ring cards are popular marketing tools with grocery, pharmacy and other retail outlets.
Milwaukee Public Library Announces Update to Media Holds Policy
The Milwaukee Public Library (MPL) announced today that its media holds policy in
effect since January 2, 2008 has been revised as follows:
- MPL will reinstate the media holds service at five (5) locations: Central, Bay View, Capitol,
Center Street, and East libraries.
- Unique media items located at any of the other eight (8) MPL locations will also be made
holdable, making all titles – but not all copies of each title – holdable.
- Items held will be delivered to any location within the Milwaukee County Federated Library
System (MCFLS) using the MPL or MCFLS delivery system as the library patron requests.
- The number of holds per patron has been lowered to 15 from 20 to help ensure that a large
number of titles/copies remain in general circulation.
Milwaukee Public Library Needs Adult Tutors
Adult volunteers are needed to provide one-on-one tutoring for adult learners at the Milwaukee Public Library. The volunteers will provide tutoring for Milwaukee residents ages 18 and older who want to upgrade their basic math and reading skills, and for adults working toward completing their GED or studying English as a second language.
Milwaukee Public Library’s Milwaukee Road Archives on Hiatus For 2009
Railroad materials in the general collection will still be available.
The Milwaukee Public Library today announced that public access to the extensive Milwaukee Road (Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad) archives will be limited beginning January 1, 2009 to enable library personnel and volunteers to re-organize and catalog the thousands of items in storage.
Milwaukee Public Library Participating in Generations on Line Project
New tool aids seniors with Internet access, Medicare Drug Plans
Seniors and their caregivers facing the daunting task of enrolling or re-enrolling in the Medicare Drug plan will have the assistance of a new tool this year called Generations on Line, a special web-based program that guides seniors who have never used a computer onto the Internet and especially the Medicare Drug Plan Finder. The Seniors Online Southeastern Wisconsin Initiative was launched today to provide trained volunteer help in many libraries and some elder housing centers in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Walworth, Racine, Ozaukee and Washington counties.
