How to use netLibrary e-books as well as background information on the whole e-book concept.

Milwaukee Public Library offers electronic books to our customers. This permanent collection of over 8,000 netLibrary titles is available on-line to City of Milwaukee residents with a Milwaukee Public Library card, or by accessing the netLibrary site from a computer within any Milwaukee Public Library. The non-fiction e-books can be read through the netLibrary Web site, our partner in this project. The Milwaukee County Federated Library System pays for this subscription.

Access e-books Through netLibrary

  • Go to the netLibrary Web site and set up your personal netLibrary account.
  • Browse or search through 8,000 non-fiction titles available through Milwaukee Public Library or thousands more in the netLibrary public collection.
  • Check out a book and access it whenever or wherever you want through your web browser.

Access e-books Through the Library's Web Catalog

  • Go to the web version of CountyCat, the library's catalog.
  • Do a Word, Subject, or Title search for the book you want.
  • Along with entries for print versions, the catalog will designate netLibrary e-books with the words "computer file" after the title or "online" in the status field.
  • Next, you can use the limit feature in CountyCat to find only computer files. Click on "Limit This Search" then select "EBook" for Material type.
  • To see the complete collection of netLibrary books, select "Author Search" in the web version of CountyCat and search using the word netLibrary.
