The following sites have been selected by librarians as a starting point to help navigate the large amount of Spanish resources available on the Internet.

AhoraUSA is a Spanish language Web site that features Science & Technology, BBC news and radio links, and government information for native Spanish speakers or students of Spanish language.

Federal Citizen Information Center en Español (FCIC) is a one-stop shop for answers to questions about consumer problems and government services. FCIC's Spanish Resources web page links to nearly 200 federal Spanish-language Web sites.

GobiernoUSA is an easy-to-search, free-access Web site that provides a centralized place to find information from U.S. local, state and federal government agency Web sites. It's the U.S. government's gateway to thousands of government resources...all in Spanish and developed by, and for, Spanish speakers.

Hispanic Online: A comprehensive list of Hispanic/Latino organizations across the U.S.A.

Latinitas is a nonprofit, bilingual webzine focused on informing, entertaining, and inspiring young Latinas to grow into healthy, confident, and successful Latina women. Its mission is to provide a forum where Latina youth have a voice, foster positive self-images, and empower Latina girls to accept and appreciate themselves.

Pew Hispanic Center is a non-partisan research organization. Its mission is to improve understanding of the U.S. Hispanic population and to chronicle Latinos' growing impact on the entire nation. Includes a daily news digest of items related to the Latino community in the U.S.

Telemundo, a U.S. Spanish-language television network, is the essential entertainment, news and sports source for Hispanics. Telemundo.com is the homepage for the television network.

Univision is one of the leading Spanish-language media companies (television, radio, music and Internet) in the United States. Univision.com has became the No.1 Spanish-language Web site for U.S. Hispanics and claims to be the most-visited Spanish-language internet portal in the United States.

English as a Second Language (ESL)
A starting point for ESL learners who want to learn English. Many people have created ESL learning materials for the Web. This site links to those free ESL sites.

Interesting Things for ESL Students
This Web site is for people studying English as a Second Language (ESL) or English as a Foreign Language (EFL). There are quizzes, word games, word puzzles, proverbs, slang expressions, anagrams, a random-sentence generator and other study materials. Even though the primary focus is for ESL, native English speakers may also find some interesting things here. This site is non-commercial and has no advertising.

Mansions del Ingles
Spanish language site for Spanish speakers learning English. Includes readings, grammar exercises, vocabulary building lists, ear-training skills, lectures, web tools, a chat forum, a dictionary and a translation tool. Personal headphones are needed for some of the exercises - these headphones are not available at most City of Milwaukee libraries.

Online Writing Lab
English as a Second Language resources, handouts and exercises. Many different materials for English as a Second Language students and teachers, which include resource pages, handouts, and exercises. Over 60 other handouts and exercises concerning grammar are also available in the grammar handouts section.

TOEFL.org
The official Web site for the Test of English as a Foreign Language which measures the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use and understand North American English as it is used in college and university settings


Magazine and Journal Articles (Artículos de Revistas y Publicaciones Periódicas)
EBSCOhost Español databases provide information from newspapers, general magazines and journals and more specific information about health and business. This resource also provides databases geared for elementary, middle school and high school homework help. In EBSCOhost Español, only the interface is in Spanish; the articles will be in English, however, all full-text articles can be translated into Spanish. EBSCOhost Español includes translated database descriptions and search screens as well as Online Help in Spanish. Check the Milwaukee Public Library guide for using EBSCOhost Español before beginning a search.
