City of Milwaukee Premises Records Address Index
Access the Index
This index lists addresses represented in the City of Milwaukee Premises Records located at Milwaukee Public Library in the City of Milwaukee Archives. Premises Records were compiled by the city’s Office of Building Inspection for some buildings that were in existence in Milwaukee between 1888 and 1980. The contents of each file vary significantly, but may include documents dating back to the original application to build through the process of razing one or more structures on the property. The property inspection functions of the former Office of Building Inspection are now part of the Department of Neighborhood Services.
The index is arranged alphabetically by street name, with numbered streets listed first in numeric order. Within each street, addresses are listed by house number. Each entry lists a series, box, and folder number that may be used to request the premises record for viewing during a visit to the Frank P. Zeidler Humanities Room on the second floor of Central Library. A small number of addresses contain notes about photographs; a special photographic finding aid may be consulted in the Frank P. Zeidler Humanities Room during all open hours.
For additional information on the history and arrangement of the Premises Records, please consult the online finding aid for the City of Milwaukee Building Inspector Premises Records in the Milwaukee Public Library’s Special Collections Finder digital collection.
