The library periodically needs adult volunteers to assist at major events for children and adults, such as author visits, Dr. Seuss Parties, Harvest Fest Celebrations, etc. Volunteers are asked to assist for at least two hours.
Purpose of Assignment
Help the library host an enjoyable experience for people coming to larger scale events.
Responsibilities May Include
Greeting people and directing them to various activities.
Ushering in Centennial Hall
Setting up.
Cleaning up after event.
Assisting at learning stations for children and their families, including crafts – providing supplies for participants; cookie decoration – distributing cookies with icing and making sure there are toppings for families to decorate; overseeing the apple tree orchard area or fishing pond area. Learning stations vary for each event. Volunteers usually rotate among the stations for variety.
Face painting.
Wearing and taking on the personality of a costume character (costume provided.)
Escorting costume characters.
Requirements
A friendly, respectful, and approachable manner and the ability to get along with diverse groups of people.
Excellent communication skills.
Excellent customer service skills.
Volunteer a minimum of two hours.
Adults 18 and older.

Harvest Fest – Adults needed for this one day volunteer opportunity at the Central Library the first Saturday of October.
Dr. Seuss - This one day family event occurs annually at Central Library to celebrate the birthday of Theodore Geisel, AKA Dr. Suess. The celebrations falls on a Saturday close to Geisel’s birthday, March 2nd.
Other special events include, but are not limited to, author events in the library or Centennial Hall, assisting at End of the Summer Carnivals or Halloween programs at neighborhood libraries.
To apply as a Special Events Volunteer submit an application, check the Special Events Volunteer box and submit your e-mail address. When special event opportunities occur an e-mail will be sent approximately one to three months ahead of time with details of the event, including date, time, location and who to contact to volunteer. Only volunteers with a completed approved application will be allowed to volunteer at Special Events.
Your completed application will be reviewed, and if there are any possible matches with currently available volunteer opportunities, we will contact you. You may also be asked to participate in an in-person interview.
