Homework Help Tutor

Assist children in an after-school homework help program.
Listen, guide and advise students between the ages of 6-12 in their studies. Available at Central Library and participating neighborhood libraries.

Responsibilities
  • Assist children one-on-one or in small groups with assignments in math, science, social studies and other topics providing direction, clarity, and understanding.
  • Instruct children in the use of directories, indexes, and other reference materials.
  • Promote the use of library resources by referring children to staff when appropriate.
  • Track number of students served and hours worked.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age (Parental permission required if under age 18)
  • A strong commitment to working with children
  • A friendly approachable manner
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to get along with a diverse group of children
  • Good computer skills are helpful, especially knowledge of web-based technology
  • Knowledge of languages other than English may be helpful for some students
  • Must be able to devote two hours per week to tutoring for at least one semester.

Hours needed are generally between 4-7 p.m.
