Assist an Adult in Improving Their Literacy Skills
Provide instruction, assistance and encouragement to an adult who wants to improve their skills in reading, writing, math, GED preparation, or English.
Responsibilities
Prepare in advance customized lessons to assist the adult learner to achieve personal educational goals
Complete brief reports on tutoring sessions to Site Coordinator
Promote the use of library resources by referring students to Library staff as appropriate
Requirements
A strong commitment to helping someone succeed in their personal educational goals
A willingness and patience to work at the pace needed by the adult learner
A friendly, respectful and approachable manner
Excellent communication skills
Knowledge of languages other than English may be helpful for some students
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to meet for 1 ½ hours with the assigned adult learner once per week at the library for at least 1 year. Hours can be weekdays, some evenings or weekends.

MATC Sessions
These sessions will take place at Forest Home Library, 1432 W. Forest Home Ave.
from 5:15 to 8:15 p.m.

Site Orientation
This session will take place at the neighborhood library chosen by the volunteer tutor from 6 to 8 p.m.
