Local History Manuscript Collections at the Milwaukee Public Library document personal, professional, organizational, and cultural history of Milwaukee. Collections may include journals, manuscripts, documents, business records, reports, studies, scrapbooks, photographs, maps, ephemera, and other primary and secondary sources.  These collections are part of the Central Library’s Humanities and Archives Department. These holdings are in differing stages of organization and preparation, hence accessibility varies.

More detailed finding aids for Local History Manuscript Collections may be consulted in paper form in the Frank P. Zeidler Humanities Room at the Central Library. Finding aids for a growing number of Local History Manuscript Collections are available online in the Special Collections Finder. Links to individual finding aids will be added to the list of collections when available.

The public may view City of Milwaukee Archive materials in the Archives Reading Room of the Central Library by appointment only. To inquire about use of City Archive materials, contact the Humanities and Archives Department at 414 286-3061.
