Inspiration starts here! Discovery Lunches are one-hour programs that let you explore and connect with fellow learners on your journey to discovery at the Milwaukee Public Library. A light lunch is provided. Still, We Rise Wisconsin! Monthly series divided into 3 parts focusing on the native African American experience throughout the United States and, more specifically, in the State of Wisconsin. The program's content provides an overview of the origins of native African Americans to the New World, ancestral lineage, and historical accounts of African Americans who established settlements in Wisconsin, exploring Fugitive Slave Act 1852, abolishment of slavery in Wisconsin, and discussions on the Reconstruction Era, last but not least, the Civil Rights Era in Wisconsin. Part 1 - Origins; The Beginning of a New World and the Making of the Native African American Spirit. (January -April) Presented by local author and native-born Wisconsinite, Bonnie J. Edwards, M.A.Ed., Educator and Speaker.Location: Community Room
