When will you open to the public?

We do not have a set date at this time. MPL receives daily guidance from Milwaukee Health Department officials, who continue to work closely with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, and other federal, state and local partners to monitor and respond to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. We will reopen upon their health and safety recommendations.

What library services are available currently?

Outside Contactless Materials Pickup 

Hours of operation (to call in requests, and pick up materials):

Mondays and Tuesdays: Noon – 8:00 PM
Wednesdays – Saturdays: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

How to request materials:

Call (414) 286-3011 to request up to five items for pickup at the Central Drive-Up service window on Eighth Street between Wisconsin and Wells Avenues, the Tippecanoe Branch, or the Washington Park Branch. At this time, patrons cannot place requests for any material via CountyCat online or mobile app. MPL also cannot accommodate requests for items from other libraries to be sent to these locations.

How to pick up materials:

Patrons will receive an appointment time to pick up materials when they make their requests. Materials must be picked up by the cardholder or parent/guardian.  At the Central Library Drive-Up window, patrons must be in a vehicle. No walkups will be accommodated. Your bookdrops are locked - how do I return items?

With the Stay at Home orders issued from both the city and the state, we are encouraging our patrons to stay at home and refrain from coming to the library to return items.  All materials currently checked out have automatically been extended to a due date of September 15.  If you do wish to return some of your items, materials will be accepted for return at Central, Tippecanoe and Washington Park beginning Monday, June 1.
