Don't Go Looking for a New Ride in This Blue Book

Today is marked by many anniversaries: 25 years since the first broadcast of The Simpsons, 27 years since the first Final Fantasy video game was released (and exactly how final is that fantasy if there are now more than 14 of them?),  57 years since the death of author Dorothy Sayers, amongst other events. But out of all these interesting historical tidbits, one sticks out (and no, it’s not that 122 years ago today the first issue of Vogue came out).

45 years ago, on December 17 1969, the order was given to stop ‘Project Blue Book’. This has nothing to do with car values, but everything to do with little green men. Project Blue Book was a study by the US government to investigate if UFOs were a threat to national security, as well as analyze UFO reports with proper scientific scrutiny.  UFOs are certainly a popular subject in the library collection, and you can read more than a few books that analyze and talk about Project Blue Book. Whether you’re like Fox Mulder and want to believe, or you’re a hard-boiled skeptic, there’s something to find at your local Milwaukee Public Library Branch.
