How Great Was Gatsby?

Reading The Great Gatsby

over and over again

is like taking the hand

of a long lost friend

and reconnecting again.

Daisy is still as shallow

as the neighborhood wading pool,

and Tom still reminds me of a

certain bully that I knew back in

high school.  He was also a

fool.

Nick Carraway seems an all right guy,

as far as these things go,

but look out for George Wilson--Jay,

‘cause something’s gonna blow.

It seems the American dream

isn’t quite what it’s made out to be,

but flappers and cars and unrequited love

are still romantic to me.

Thank you Mr. Fitzgerald,

I love your America.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is widely regarded as a true classic of 20th Century American Literature.  When folks refer to a “classic” novel, this fits the bill in every way. Retro is currently cool and so is this book. When planning your summer vacation or beach visit, be sure to bring this remarkable book with you! Check out some of the film versions for more insight into 1920’s America.
